With Vitruve, you can automatically estimate your 1RM (One-Rep Max) in real time, helping you train smarter and monitor your strength progress.
π Two Ways to Estimate 1RM
There are two main methods:
- Using a Pre-built Load-Velocity (L-V) Profile
- Estimating 1RM during a training session β (Focus of this guide)
π Estimating 1RM During Training
1οΈβ£ Create a Load-Velocity Profile
- An L-V profile must be available for the selected exercise.
- Default equations exist for popular exercises (e.g., squat, bench press).
- For other movements, create a custom L-V profile via the Tests section.
π No profile = No estimation. The system needs the L-V relationship to make accurate predictions.
2οΈβ£ Start a Training Session
- Begin a new VBT training session.
- Choose the exercise with an available L-V profile.
3οΈβ£ Track Your Estimated 1RM
- As you perform reps, your estimated 1RM will appear at the top of the screen.
- The highest estimate during the session is saved as your 1RM for that session.
4οΈβ£ (Optional) Adjust Load by 1RM Percentage
- Tap the 1RM estimation at the top of the screen.
- Use the slider to select a percentage of your 1RM (e.g., 70%, 85%).
- The app will calculate and suggest the corresponding training load.
β οΈ Important Notes on 1RM Accuracy
π 1RM Filter Automatically Enabled
- Prevents inaccurate estimations by blocking reps that are:
- Performed at higher speeds than those used in the L-V profile.
- You can adjust the velocity threshold in:
- Settings > Exercise > ROM Filter
π Metric-Specific Equations
- 1RM estimation uses the metric tied to the equationβnot necessarily your session's main metric.
- Example:
- Power cleanβs L-V profile uses Peak Velocity β app uses Peak Velocity to calculate 1RM.
π Track Your Progress Over Time
- After finishing your session, tap βENDβ β βSAVE.β
- Your daily 1RM estimate will be stored in the Progress section.
π€ Why Am I Not Seeing a 1RM Estimate?
Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|
β No L-V profile available | Create one in the Tests section |
β 1RM filter blocking it | Increase the threshold in Settings > Exercise > ROM Filter |
β Using an unsupported metric | Switch to a supported metric or check the default equation used for the exercise |
β Summary
Step | Action |
---|---|
Create L-V Profile | In Tests section or use default |
Start Training | Choose exercise & begin lifting |
Watch 1RM Estimate | Appears in real-time after each rep |
Adjust Load | Tap 1RM value and slide to desired percentage |
Save & Track Progress | Save the session to log your daily 1RM |
π Accurate, real-time 1RM estimation keeps your training personalized and progressive.
